Can all types of flowers be pressed?
We use multiple pressing methods and techniques for different flowers in order to yield the best results. There are many flowers that can also be deconstructed first in order to press them. There aren’t many flowers I can’t press. We always get creative when it comes to finding a way to incorporate all your blooms in your frame, even the tricky ones.
We will always try to press all the varieties in your bouquet but ultimately some flowers can be difficult to press, and the results can be inconsistent. Thick flowers or flowers with a lot of moisture can mold during the pressing process and often do not turn out. Some flowers also press “well” but their results can be quite different than the original flower i.e. lisianthus. Lisianthus come in various colours and some varieties press beautifully keeping their colour. Other varieties like white, purple and pink
have a tendency to turn yellow or a mixture of yellow and blue/pink.
There are a few flowers that have inconsistent results both through pressing and reconstruction and will often be omitted from the design. Specifically mum varieties and chrysanthemums don’t tend to hold their colour well through the pressing process and can become brown in colour.
It’s important to understand the changes to expect in the drying process and how
that will impact the final look of your frame.
Will the colours be the same as the fresh bouquet?
Due to the natural drying process of flowers, it is expected for the flowers to change colour and tone during this process. This is natural and unavoidable. Some flowers will remain a similar colour, but lighter or darker and others can have a more significant change.
White flowers tend to go ivory, yellow or beige, pink flowers tend to change to mauve or purple or can lighten to be closer to a white/light pink shade. Reds can become more purple/magenta.
For roses, the outer petals are often a different colour than the inner petals. This can result in the final pressed colour to vary more from your original bouquet.
It is important to understand and consider these colour changes as the flowers will no longer be an exact match to your bouquet once dried. We're happy to discuss alterations that can be made to your fresh bouquet or additional flowers that can be provided to ensure your final frame has the look and pops of colour you envision.
Do my flowers need to be fresh to be framed?
Flowers must be received no later than 3 days after your event. The condition in which I receive the flowers can impact how well the flowers press. We will provide tips on the do’s and don’t’s of handling and storing your bouquet once you book.
That being said, we can also press air-dried bouquets. Please reach out via the contact form to discuss your options!
Will the colours change over time? How long will the frame last?
Yes, the flowers will change over time! This is a natural part of the process and part of what makes it so beautiful. Due to the organic nature of flowers, they will gradually fade over time. The fading process is gradual, and some flowers will fade more than others. We recommend keeping your art out of direct sunlight to slow down any fading that may occur. White tones in your bouquet will also look more ‘vintage’ with age becoming more ivory/yellow toned over time.
This frame is an heirloom art piece that can be enjoyed and appreciated for years to come and passed down through generations. You will get to witness our frames grow and change with you over the years. To me, this gradual fading is part of the art and while the colours may change, the meaning and beauty in this piece will remain forever.
How long will it take for me to receive my frame?
The full process can take anywhere from 6-8 months (+/-) depending on if it during peak wedding season. Our focus during peak season is heavily placed on drying fresh bouquets which results in minimal time left for designing frames.
Each pressed flower artwork is a labor of love, and creating your timeless keepsake is a process that takes time, care, and dedication. From carefully pressing each bloom to designing a composition that beautifully captures the essence of your bouquet, I pour my heart into every detail. The process ensures that your flowers are preserved at their peak beauty and transformed into apiece of art you’ll cherish forever.
Because of this meticulous approach, the timeline for creating your piece may vary, but rest assured, the care and artistry behind it make it worth the wait.
